AA: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-27) 6 vs. Reading Fightin Phils (18-25) 4 Box Score

It’s safe to say Francisco Alvarez is back. After launching two home runs Thursday night, the 20-year-old catcher launched another solo shot Friday to give him seven on the year.

Carlos Cortes also hit his first home run since his demotion to Double-A, putting Binghamton on the board in the seventh inning. Zach Ashford would then give the Mets the lead in the top of the ninth with a bases-clearing, three-run triple en route to a 6-4 victory.

Chacin was solid Friday, holding Reading off the board until the sixth inning before allowing a two-run home run to Aldrem Corredor. Mitch Ragan worked around a pair of walks in the eighth to earn his first win of the season before Bryce Montes de Oca earned his third save despite allowing a run in the ninth.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (18-21) 20 vs. Bowling Green Hot Rods (25-16) 6 Box Score

  • 1B JT Schwartz2-for-4, 2B, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K, .246/.368/.331
  • RF Joe Suozzi3-for-5, HR (3), 4 R, 5 RBI, BB, SB (3) .232/.343/.464

  • CF Jaylen Palmer1-for-5, HR (4), 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, 3 K, .186/.308/.343

Wow. After scoring just one run in their last two games the Cyclones exploded with a 20-run performance on 19 hits and five home runs.  Joe Suozzi opened the scoring with a solo shot in the second inning, his first of five RBIs. The Nassau County native is now slashing .385/.467/.731 in 26 at-bats so far in May.

Brooklyn would go on to score four runs in the third, five in the fifth, and 10 (yes, 10) in the 6th en route to the blowout victory.

Despite plenty of run support, Daison Acosta failed to qualify for a win after allowing four runs in the fourth inning. Grant Hartwig would earn the classic 14-run save with three scoreless innings. Hartwig now has a 3.32 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP in 19 innings between Brooklyn and St. Lucie.

A: St. Lucie Mets (28-15) 1 vs. Dunedin Blue Jays (19-24) 5 Box Score

St. Lucie couldn’t get much going offensively Friday night with Alex Ramirez out of the lineup. Their lone run came on a Kevin Villavicencio solo home run in the 5th inning, one of only three hits for the Mets in the contest.

Joel Diaz, the Mets’ #9 prospect according to Baseball America, struggled early in his stateside debut allowing four runs in the first inning (three coming on a Damiano Palmegiani home run) before settling in to retire his final 10 batters faced. Diaz relied primarily on his sinker which averaged 93.8 MPH.

Franklin Sanchez was excellent in relief of Diaz, striking out four over two perfect innings. He now has a 13.50 K/9 through 10 innings this season.
