Las Vegas – Peter Alonso, 1B

Age: 23
Stats: .289/.405/.571, 24 2B, 3B, 29 HR, 105 RBI, 2 CS
Week Stats: .500/.565/1.100, 3 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI

This past week, Alonso became the first professional baseball player to reach 100 RBIs this season.  Part of the reason why is he has made the necessary adjustments, and he is now mashing in Las Vegas the way he was in Binghamton.  The way he is hitting you really have to wonder just how much the Mets resolve to not call him up this year will be tested.

Binghamton – Will Toffey, 3B

Age: 23
Stats: .256/.387/.405, 16 2B, 6 HR, 39 RBI, SB
Week Stats: .263/.500/.421, 3 2B

Toffey has seemed like a different prospect since joining the Mets organization.  He’s getting on base at an even higher clip with him drawing as many walks as he has strikeouts.  More importantly, he has hit for much more power with Toffey accumulating 41 percent of his extra base hits on the season in Binghamton while only having played less than 30 percent of his 2018 season there.

St. Lucie – David Peterson, LHP

Age: 22
Stats: 4-10, 3.65 ERA, 1.261 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9, 7.1 K/9
Week Stats: 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0 BB, 9 K

After his initial struggles after his promotion to the Florida State Leauge, last year’s first round pick seems to have gotten back on track.  He has had back-to-back quality starts striking out more than a batter per inning.  Clearly, his best start since his promotion was this past week when he pitched six shutout innings while allowing just two hits, walking none, and striking out nine.

Columbia – David Miranda, RF

Age: 23
Stats: .258/.385/.306, 3 2B, 6 RBI, 4 SB, CS
Week Stats: .412/.474/.471, 2B, 2 RBI

This year’s 25th round draft pick was noted for a good eye at the plate as he put up good strikeout-to-walk ratios in his collegiate career.  In fact, he has a 1:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his young career.  That plate discipline has helped him take off this week with a four game hitting streak including multi-hit games in his last three games.

Brooklyn – Christian James, RHP

Age: 20
Stats: 3-2, 1.90 ERA, 1.135 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9, 6.1 K/9
Week Stats: 1-0, 0.00 ERA, BB, 6 K

As noted in a recent MMO Prospect Spotlight, James has impressed this season showing good command of all three of his pitches with a strong mound presence.  This translated to his best start in his young professional career with him pitching seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits and one walk.

Kingsport – Shervyen Newton, SS

Age: 19
Stats: .294/.410/.475, 16 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 34 RBI, 4 SB
Week Stats: .333/.448/.524, 2 2B, 3B, 6 RBI, SB

In his weekly chat on Meadow Party, Keith Law said of Newton, “Great feel for the game, so I’m not shocked at the plate discipline, but he’s really hitting with some impact.”  This past week was an other example of that with Newton with him drawing four walks and getting seven base hits with three of those going for extra bases.

Gulf Coast – Simeon Woods-Richardson, RHP

Age: 17
Stats: 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1.200 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9, 11.9 K/9
Week Stats: 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 BB, 4 K

Like James, Woods-Richardson was features in an MMO Prospect Spotlight for his dominance from the pitching rubber.  For Woods-Richardson, it is about his getting more consistency from his fastball and his ability to just put batters away.  Right now, he is striking out 30.1 percent of the batters he faces with them hitting just .188/.278/.250 off of him.

Dominican Summer League – Felix Valerio, 2B

Age: 17
Stats: .313/.407/.407, 12 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 16 RBI, 12 SB, 4 CS
Week Stats: .429/.520/.571, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, CS

Valerio has been on fire during the entire Month of August reaching safely in nine of the 10 games he has played.  In half of those games, he has had a multi-hit game with three three hit games.
