Luis Mateo was stellar on the mound, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season. Mateo allowed four hits and surrendered two walks to go with his nine strikeouts.
St. Lucie scored its first run in the fourth inning after designated hitter Dustin Lawley lined a one-out double down the left-field line for the Mets’ first hit of the game. Lawley later scored on a Palm Beach error to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
The game remained 1-0 until the sixth inning, when the Mets bats came alive on the Palm Beach bullpen. St. Lucie nailed five straight singles to start the inning and give the Mets all the runs they would need.
Randy Fontanez and T.J. Chism combined to throw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Mateo. Chism picked up his first save of the season.
St. Lucie pitching now boasts a 0.59 ERA — allowing just three earned runs in 46 innings pitched.
