As spring training officially was under way, Matt Harvey came into Port St Lucie as the Mets newest pitching prospect.  No one really knew who this guy was when he was drafted.  The only thing anyone really knew about Harvey, was that he was chosen by the Mets as the 7th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft.  Coming into his first professional season, expectations for him have been set very high.  As May comes around, Matt Harvey is exceeding those expectations set forth by the Mets.

During the month of April, Matt Harvey was absolutely dominant, as I mentioned in a post, a couple weeks ago.  During his first four starts, he was very untouchable. To cap the success he has had during the month, he was named the Florida State League’s Pitcher of the Week.  But, during a game against Bradenton on April 28th, Matt Harvey struggled and gave up 4 runs in 4.1 innings in a losing effort.

Overall, Matt Harvey is showing the Mets organization that he is a future star in the making and could very well be the Mets future ace.  Even though he is pitching in Single-A with other hopefuls, the real test for Matt Harvey is going to be when he officially gets called up to Double-A Binghamton. Then we’ll know whether or not Harvey is definitely a guy primed for success.

Here are some other notable stuff going around the Mets minor league system.

St. Lucie Leading FSL North Standings

Matt Harvey is not the only success story coming out of Port St. Lucie.  The St. Lucie Mets are leading the Florida State North standings.  They currently have a one-game lead over the Fort Myers Miracle.  They return to action on Monday against the Palm Beach Cardinals.
