Las Vegas 8, Albuquerque 0 F/7 Game 1

Noah Syndergaard has had a rough couple of days between having a bad case of food poisoning and getting into a twitter battle that GM Sandy Alderson didn’t approve of. Yet somehow he took the mound last night and was absolutely dominant over 7 innings allowing as many hits (2) as he had at the plate. Thor needed only 83 pitches (62 strikes) to get the job done and he scored two runs just for good measure. Two out of Las Vegas’ three games the starting pitchers (Matz on Friday) have thrown 7 shutout innings and collected as many hits at the plate as they gave up on the mound. Thor was consistently hitting 96-97 MPH with his fastball while topping out at 98, had a great curveball and even got some swing and misses on his changeup last night. The offense for the 51’s was just as good banging out 12 hits in only 6 innings with Matt Reynolds leading the way with three hits, two doubles, three runs scored, and three RBI’s. Reynolds now has 9 doubles and 21 RBI’s both good for 2nd in the Pacific Coast League. Dilson Herrera had his 11th multi-hit game in his last 12 going 2-4 with his 7th double and 10th RBI on the year. Alex Castellanos continues his under the radar offensive outburst going to 2-2 with a walk and a RBI raising his season average to .371. Johnny Monell chipped in with two hits and three RBI while newcomer Brooks Conrad was 0-4. Worth noting the 51’s did this damage off the 16th best prospect in baseball Jon Gray according to MLB.com. Box Score

Las Vegas 3, Albuquerque 2 F/7 Game 2

The 51’s great pitching poured over to the second game as Darin Gorski, Duane Below, and Chasen Bradford combined to give up only two runs with Bradford picking up his 2nd save. Alex Castellanos came up in the bottom of the 6th with the game tied 2-2 and his 6th homerun of the season to give Las Vegas the lead. Matt Reynolds was 1-3 and slid over to 2nd base to give Dilson Herrera the game off (pinch hit and grounded out). Wilfredo Tovar played SS and was 1-3 and would seem likely to get the call up to the Mets when Rafael Montero is sent down after his cameo tonight. Box Score Tyler Pill will take the hill for Las Vegas this afternoon at 3:05 ET

Binghamton 2, Sea Dogs 2 Suspended in 2nd inning

The best news here is that Gavin Cecchini returned to the B’Mets lineup and looked great in batting practice hitting the ball all over the field and making a good play in the first inning coming in on a soft ground ball. The weather was fine all day in Portland until Super Bowl Hero Malcolm Butler came out to throw the first pitch deflating the evening from there on. They will pick up the game today at 5 PM and will play a seven inning game after the completion.

St. Lucie 7, Jupiter 1

Robert Gsellman continued his great start of the season and pushed himself 3-0 throwing 6 innings giving up only one run on three base runners while striking out six hitters. Gsellman now has a 2.14 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP with the league hitting just .210 against him on the season. Julian Hilario and Akeel Morris combined to throw three scoreless innings of relief to close the game out for the Mets. Maikis De La Cruz was the offensive star hitting his 3rd homerun and 2nd double knocking in and scoring two runs. Jeff McNeil extended his hitting streak to 7 games going 2-4 with a BB, RBI, and a run scored. Michael Crush Conforto proved he was human going 0-5 lowering his average to .324. Champ Stuart reached base twice scoring two runs while Amed Rosario was 1-4 raising his average to .230 on the year. Dominic Smith was put on the 7-day DL and was seen in a walking boot. Box Score St. Lucie will take on Jupiter again tonight with Miller Diaz and his perfect 0.00 ERA on the mound

Savannah had the day off and will be back at it today  at Grayson Stadium with Scarlyn Reyes pitching.
