Salt Lake 5, Las Vegas (41-32) 4

Las Vegas was clinging to a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th inning when Vic Black was brought in for the 2nd straight night but was not as successful this time giving up a 3-run homerun to C.J. Cron that turned out to be the game winner. Seems very curious to pitch someone back-to-back days after not having pitched in 15 days. The 51’s went down 1-2-3 in the 9th against former Indian Vinnie Pestano with Anthony Recker flying out to end the game.

Tyler Pill made the start for Las Vegas going 5 innings giving up two runs on six hits without a walk and striking out six. Scott Rice, John Church, Chase Huchingson, and Zack Thornton combined to throw 3 scoreless innings in relief. Huchingson now has 6 innings in Las Vegas without giving up a earned run (2 unearned) while allowing only 5 base runners and striking out seven.

Wilfredo Tovar paced the Las Vegas offense going 3-3 with two runs scored and stealing his 20th bag of the year. Tovar is 7-15 over his last four games, he is now hitting .281/.330/.371 for the year. Danny Muno was 2-4 with two RBI raising his average in Las Vegas to .305 for the season. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was 1-4 with a run scored and an outfield assist, he is hitting .393 since returning to the Mets organization. Alex Castellanos was 1-4 with his league leading 23rd double, he has hit safely in 9 of the last 10 games. Matt Reynolds and Anthony Recker combined to go 0-8 with three strikeouts. Box Score

Dillon Gee makes his 2015 Las Vegas debut tonight going against Salt Lake City Bees at 9:05 ET.

Harrisburg 4, Binghamton (37-33) 1

The B’Mets wasted a spectacular start by Michael Fulmer who went 7 shutout innings giving up just three hits and a walk while picking up six strikeouts. Fulmer faced two over the minimum thanks to two successful pick-offs at first base and a double play. He had his slider working well with all but one strikeout coming via his nasty breaking ball. Stadium gun even had him hitting 98/99 a couple of times making it seem like the gun was a little hot last night, normally sits at 95/96 MPH. Matt Koch had given up a minuscule two runs in 26.1 innings since being moved to the bullpen before last night when he gave up four runs (three earned) in two innings to blow Fulmer’s great outing. Here is video of Fulmer striking out Nats prospect Trea Turner (only time he got out last night).

Gavin Cecchini was due to regress some given his high BABIP early in the season but over his last 68 plate appearances his BABIP was an unlucky .182 lowering his average to .287 on the season. Tuesday night he showed signs of breaking out of his funk (1-2 with walk) and last night he busted out with a bang going 3-4 with his 5th homerun of the year raising his average back up to .295 for the year. Brandon Nimmo singled in the 9th inning to extend his AA hitting streak to 13 games. Jared King was 1-4 with his first triple of the year and his first extra base hit in 36 games. Michael Conforto was 0-4 on the night snapping his reaching base streak at 21 games (all in AA) which was 2nd best in the Eastern League behind J.P. Crawford‘s 23 game streak. In his first and second at bats Conforto had a good swing with two fly outs against a lefty. The last two at bats were not as good, flailing on a 3-2 breaking ball to strikeout and a check swing dribbled in his last at bat. Box Score

Robert Gsellman makes his 5th AA start tonight looking for his 4th straight quality start as the B’Mets take on Harrisburg at 6:35.

Jupiter 6, St. Lucie (35-35) 2 F/14

The Mets got out to a early 2-0 lead scoring a run in the 1st and 2nd innings but were unable to produce another run for the last 12 innings of the game putting too much pressure on the bullpen. The St. Lucie Mets bullpen put up eight consecutive zeros before Julian Hilario gave up a walk-off grand slam to pinch hitter Felix Munoz.

Dominic Smith drove in his 43rd run of the year (good for 2nd in the FSL) with a ground out to start the scoring off for St. Lucie but finished the night going 0-6. Amed Rosario was the only Met with two hits on the night extending his hitting streak to 7 games. Jeff McNeil was 1-6 and is still leading the Florida State League in hitting with his .326 average.

Robert Whalen got the start and was wild for the 2nd straight start allowing four walks but managed to give him only two unearned runs in 5 innings while striking out four. All-Star Mike Hepple, Robert Coles, Kyle Regnault, and Kelly Secrest followed with each throwing two scoreless innings of relief. Box Score

St. Lucie is back at it tonight with Logan Taylor (1-5, 4.85) on the mound vs. Bradenton at 6:30

Savannah returns from the All-Star break with Casey Delgado (3-0, 2.55) making the start against Lexington at 7:05 tonight.

Brooklyn (4-2) 2, Tri-City 1 F/12

The Cyclones remained tied at 1 for five innings before Enmanuel Zabala walked to start the bottom of the 12th and Jeffrey Diehl ended the game with his first triple of the year to right field. First basemen Diehl was 2-5 on the night, overall this year he is 6-14 with four RBI and three extra base hits. The Mets 2015 14th round pick Vinny Siena has started his pro career off with a blast, after going 2-5 last night he is 9-22 with five walks in his first 5 pro games. Lefty Carlos Valdez pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to pick up his first win of the year. Box Score

Johnson City 10, Kingsport (1-1) 5

Mets 9th round 2015 pick Kevin Kaczmarski made his pro debut playing left field going 0-3 with two walks. The Mets 3rd round pick from last year Milton Ramos was 2-4 with a RBI and a walk. Catcher and 8th round pick this year Patrick Mazeika made his debut in the field and went 2-5 with two doubles with a RBI. Dash Winningham was 1-4 knocking in two runs for the 2nd straight night. Box Score
