Las Vegas 12, Reno 0

Steven Matz made the start in Vegas for Noah Syndergaard (food poisoning) and did not disappoint holding a no hitter through 6.2 innings before our old friend Nick Evans singled to break it up. The next batter singled but Matz got a strike out to end the inning and his 7 innings of shutout baseball with only one walk and five strikeouts. Not only was Matz spectacular on the mound but he equaled the amount of hits the whole Reno lineup had going 2-3 scoring a run. Matt Reynolds bounced back after a rough night to hit his 2nd homerun of the year to go with 3 RBI’s, his 5th steal, and a walk. Alex Castellanos hit his 5th HR as part of his three hit and three runs scored night while playing LF and batting 4th. Dilson Herrera had another multi-hit night (9 out of the last 10 games) with a double, single and two RBI’s. Newly acquired catcher Dan Rohlfing made his 51’s debut going 1-5 with a run scored and a RBI. Zack Thornton and Jack Leathersich each pitched a perfect inning of relief to secure the two hit shutout. Leathersich has now pitched 7 innings giving up only two walks and four hits while striking out 13 hitters. Reno’s shortstop Danny Worth pitched an inning in mop-up duty and is no Ike Davis as he gave up four runs. Box Score Noah Syndergaard will take the hill tonight for the 51’s at 10:05 ET against Reno

New Hampshire 10, Binghamton 5

Gabriel Ynoa had a rough night lasting only 4.2 giving up ten hits (2 HR’s), three walks, and six runs to New Hampshire where first pitch temperature was about 41 degrees. Beck Wheeler and Adam Kolarek didn’t fair much better for the B’Mets as they both allowed two more runs as Binghamton allowed 20 base runners on the night. Binghamton had it’s fair share of scoring opportunities as well but went 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left 9 runners on base. Jared King did hit his first AA homerun, a two-run shot in the 7th off former Met reliever Greg Burke. Brandon Nimmo played RF and was 2-5 with his 3rd double raising his average up to .263 on the year. Jayce Boyd, Xorge Carrillo, Dustin Lawley, and Jairo Perez each had a single while the Rodriguez’s combined to go 5-10 with a double and RBI each. Box Score Luis Cessa will take the mound tonight at 5:35 on his 23rd birthday and yet to allow an earned run on the early season.

St. Lucie 4, Fort Myers 3 F/17

After Fort Myers tied the game in the top of the 7th inning at 3-3 it stayed that way through 9 scoreless innings until Maikis De La Cruz hit a walk-off sac fly to score Champ Stuart in the bottom of the 17th. The big hero though was the Mets bullpen in which Julian Hilario (1 IP), Robert Coles(2 IP), Akeel Morris(2 IP), Kyle Renault (4 IP), and Kyle Secrest (3 IP) combined to allow only 1 unearned run in 12 innings of work. The starter Logan Taylor went 5 innings giving up only two runs while striking out six. Michael Conforto had a rough night at the plate going 0-5 but was intentionally walked three times and threw out a runner at the plate trying to tag up on a fly ball. Jeff McNeil had three hits on the night while Champ Stuart was 1-6 with a walk and four K’s. Jhoan Urena showed signs of busting out of his season long slump with two hits including a 2-run 2B putting his season average at .197. Amed Rosario had two hits as well while playing all 17 innings at shortstop. Dominic Smith in his first game back from an illness left the game in the top of the 4th with an apparent lower back injury.Box Score St. Lucie hopes Robert Whalen can soak up some innings tonight as they take on Fort Myers again at 6:30 at Tradition Field.

Charleston 1, Savannah 0

Pitching prospect Casey Meisner was sharp on the night going 6 innings giving up only the one run while striking out five but was the tough luck loser as the Sand Gnats only produced three hits on the night. Lefty David Roseboom followed with two perfect innings of relief striking out every bat he faced but one. Stefan Sabol, Tomas Nido, and Jonathan Johnson each had a single for Savannah as they fell to 5-10 to start the year. John Mora, Luis Guillorme, and Wuilmer Becerra combined to go 0-11 with Guillorme the only one to reach base with a walk. Box Score The Mets 5th rounder last year Josh Prevost will start tonight against Charleston at 6:05 ET.
