According to The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal, the Mets might be interested in Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vázquez.

In 107 at-bats thus far for Boston, Vazquez is hitting .252/.286/.411 with a .697 OPS. On the defensive end, Vázquez has done well, with eight caught stealing (out of 20) and a 40 percent caught stealing percentage, which ranks first in the AL.

Per Rosenthal, the Red Sox are currently looking into some of the Mets’ minor league players, an indication that – at the very least – the two teams might be in discussion with each other.

It may not come as much of a surprise that the Mets are in search of options behind the plate. Wilson Ramos – though showing signs of breaking out in recent days – has had a less than stellar first half, to the tune of .229/.301/.337 and an OPS of .638. He’s also been limited to just five extra base hits in 83 at-bats, and has struck out 19 times thus far.

Defensively, Ramos has been decent (just two passed balls and three caught stealing) but it’s evident that his mobility behind the dish is not what it once was.

In addition to Ramos, the Mets have backup catchers Tomás Nido and René Rivera – however, both are currently on the injured list.

It should be noted that the trade deadline for this abbreviated season is tomorrow, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. ET.
