Each week I will recap the Mets Minor Leagues and give you a rundown on their games, highlights, and any significant player news, injuries or promotions. It will be posted in two parts with the first part encompassing the high minors and the second part, the low minors.

AAA – New Orleans Zephyrs (36-33)

6/11 – The Zephyrs had a tough time driving in runners as they fall to the Round Rock Express, 5-3. The Zephyrs left 9 men on base which added to the loss. Anderson Hernandez (SS) went 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI. Jason Vargas (4-4) got the start and was OK. Vargas went six innings surrendering four runs on five hits. His ERA rose to 4.80 for the season.

6/12 – After a tough lost, the Zephyrs bounced back early and defeated the Express, 6-2. David Newhan (2B) had a big impact on Tuesday’s game. Newhan hit a base clearing double in the first to jump start the Zephyrs towards victory. Andy Tracy (1B) went 3-for-4 and added two RBIs in the top of the ninth to cap off the Zephyr win. Adam Bostick (3-5) was solid in his start. Bostick went 5.1 innings giving up two runs on seven hits. Bostick also struck out seven batters he faced.

6/13 – Victory appeared for the Zephyrs again as they won against the Express, 3-1. Jake Gautreau (2B) went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a double. Gautreau drove in the run in two-run seventh inning. Sandy Alomar Jr. (C) also went 2-for-4, also with a RBI. Brian Lawrence (3-4) had a superb start going seven strong innings allowing only a run on four hits. Lawrence showed his dominating state as he struck out eight men.

6/14 – Despite only getting five hits, the Zephyrs managed to pull of the series win defeating the Express, 3-2. Ben Johnson (CF) went 2-for-3 including a crucial at-bat in the top of the 9th. Johnson got hit by the pitch that scored the winning run. Mike Pelfrey had a strong outing. Pelfrey went five innings giving up two runs on six hits. Although Pelfrey walked two, he did strike out seven. Pelfrey’s ERA is now 2.87. If you ask me, Pelfrey is starting to learn the game and is now using his pitches wisely. But, he’ll need alot more of these starts to get called back up. Jon Adkins (1-2) got the win.

6/15 – The Zephyrs looked to carry their winning ways against the Oklahoma RedHawks, but fell short 6-2. The only offense for the Zephyrs was Miguel Negron (CF), who was called up from AA – Binghamton last week. Negron went 1-for 4 with two RBIs. Philip Humber (7-5) got the start and didn’t have his A-game. Humber was roughed up for six runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Humber was like a batting practice pitcher giving up three home runs. Although he had his troubles, Humber did strike out six batter in his tough day of work.

PCL Hitter of the Week (June 11th) : Chip Ambres

AA – Binghamton Mets (28-35)

6/10 – The Mets had suffered a heart-breaking loss on Monday losing, 2-1 to the Connecticut Defenders. Mark Kiger (3B) drove in the only run of the day as he went 2-for-3 with a double. Fernando Martinez (CF) went 2-for-4 and rose his average to .283. Kevin Mulvey had a good outing but did not receive the win. Mulvey went seven strong outings allowing only a run on six hits. Tim McNab (6-2) got the loss in the bottom of the ninth.

6/13 – The offense continues to struggle for the Mets as they fall to the Reading Phillies, 6-1. Caleb Stewart (RF) seems to always be the hot hitter for the Mets. On Tuesday, Stewart went 2-for-4 with a run scored. His average for the year is .308. Brett Harper (1B) drove in the only run for the Mets. Marcos Carvajal (1-5) got shelled in his six innings of work. Carvajal gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits. He also allowed two home runs that rose his average to 4.78.

6/14 – Runs are hard to find for the Mets as they only score one in the loss against the Phillies, 7-1. Mark Kiger (3B) provided the only Mets spark going 3-for-5 with a RBI. Michael Devaney was outstanding in his five innings of work. Devaney only gave up one hit and struck out seven. The reason why the Mets lost, was the bullpen. Their bullpen was horrendous. In only four innings of work, the bullpen, combined, allowed seven runs on nine hits.

6/15 – Trying to avoid a five game losing streak, the Mets pulled of an 11th inning win, defeating the Harrisburg Senators, 4-3. The Mets had a hitting parade, shelling thirteen hits. Mike Kiger (3B) went 4-for-5 including a two run home run in the sixth innings. Kiger also has two runs scored. There was one bad hitting performance. Corey Coles (LF) went 0-for-6 with get this, FIVE STRIKEOUTS! Coles received the platinum sombrero in the top of the ninth. Robert Parnell, who was recently called up from A-ball Savannah, had a solid outing. Parnell went six innings allowing two runs on four hits, including seven strikeouts. Kevin Tomasiewicz (1-0) got the win in two innings of relief. Tomasiewicz allowed only one hit and struck out three.
