There is no denying that the New York Mets have been stunning fans and enthusiasts of Major League Baseball with their early 2022 season form this year, as the team continues to enjoy an incredible start to the campaign.

The Mets are now 21-10 on the season and lead the Atlanta Braves by seven games in the NL East.

The team has not lost any of their first eight series thus far and recently split a four-game set with the Atlanta Braves thanks to some superb pitching coupled with some timely offensive punch.

Injuries Have Always Plagued the Mets…

But not so much this season. Sure, the Mets were dealt a big blow to start the season when Jacob deGrom was lost to a sore right shoulder. But there’s good news on that front as deGrom has just been cleared to begin light throwing.

In addition to losing our top starting pitcher for two months, we just learned that Sean Reid-Foley will undergo Tommy John Surgery today, after the 26-year-old righty suffered a torn UCL.

Also Mets reliever Trevor May has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in the humerus of his throwing arm and could miss 8-12 weeks.

On the offensive side of the ball it’s been a completely different story. In fact, when was the last time the Mets had no hitters on the injured list?

How about never!

And yet despite all the league-high knockdowns and hit-by-pitches, Mets hitters have been relatively healthy with no significant bumps and bruises.

The Magic Is Back?

Naturally, there will have been some that would have been concerned that the Mets’ exceptional start to the 2022 MLB season would have started to unravel by now.

And who could blame them? The Mets have faked us out too many previous times with a great start only to completely unravel by the All-Star break.

However, in the immortal words of Bob Dylan, “the times they are a changin…”

If this season sees the Mets winning the division like I projected them to, and they go onto making some noise in the postseason, I will look back at the moment where the Mets showed some muscle, character and determination.

It was during their incredible showing last Thursday, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Things certainly did not look good as the Mets entered the ninth and final frame of the game facing a huge deficit. Trailing 7-1 after an exceptional outing by Aaron Nola, things looked bleak.

However, something clearly changed and one by one each batter had managed to find their rhythm as the Mets stunned everyone, turning a six run deficit into an incredible 8-7 win . It was truly magical.

Ya Gotta Believe

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are a growing number of fans — including myself — starting to believe that all the impressive victories and epic comebacks thus far, are far from coincidental.

No, my friends, it is proof positive that there is an element of confidence flowing through the organization that has not been seen in decades. I’m not just talking about the players, but this confidence radiates all the way through to manager Buck Showalter, the overhauled front office, and of course Steve Cohen, the team’s owner who has made all of this possible.

Naturally, there is still a lot of season that remains to be played. But it’s not totally insane to think that this team can do the unthinkable and win their first World Series title since 1986.

This team is legit and they don’t just look great on paper, they are doing it on the field with a swagger that is very reminiscent of those boisterous mid-eighties Mets teams.

Look no further than all the oddsmakers and sportsbooks that have the Mets with the third best odds to win the World Series, including BetMGM in New York who are now taking bets.

Fans who are interested in placing a wager on the Mets to win the World Series can find that they are available at odds of +800 as even Las Vegas is sensing something special is brewing in Queens.

The Team, The Time

The Mets have already delivered a stunning five-run ninth-inning comeback win against the Cardinals, while also recording their second no-hitter in franchise history, almost a decade after Johan Santana threw the Mets’ only previous no-hitter on June 1, 2012.

Furthermore, they managed to make history in Thursday night’s game against the Braves when they came back, as no team had managed to do in quite some time.  In fact, the last 684 times an MLB team has been behind by six in the final inning, they have each gone on to lose the game.

While the Mets managed to change that, they also improved their own record as they were 0-330 over the course of the last 25 seasons when trailing by six runs or more as they entered the final inning. Amazing.

So will Buck Showalter’s team continue to show that they can impress on the field and continue to keep this rather special run going ?

Of course, that is perhaps the biggest question and it could all rest on how well the team manages to stay healthy because the fact is they have all the pieces in place to go all the way.

It has been a joy to watch this team this season. You have several players delivering career seasons and everyday it’s a different player rising to the occasion. This is the team we’ve been praying for. Enjoy the ride.
