The New York Mets (73-66) defeated the Cincinnati Reds (57-80) by a score of 5-3 in a great comeback win for the team. The Mets now currently trail the St. Louis Cardinals by a half game at the time of this posting for the second Wild Card spot.
Pitching:
Rafael Montero again struggled with his command as he worked his way through 4.1 innings. Montero walked four batters in his short performance while allowing three runs on three hits and striking out four.
Josh Edgin took over for Montero with runners on first and third and would allow a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joey Votto to put the Reds ahead by a score of 3-2 in the fifth.
Edgin, Gabriel Ynoa, Josh Smoker, Fernando Salas and Addison Reed would combine for 3.2 innings of scoreless ball before giving way to Jeurys Familia in the ninth to protect a 5-3 lead. The Mets single season saves leader would pad his franchise record with his 46th save of the season.
Offense:
Curtis Granderson and Jose Reyes got the offense started off early with two solo shots that had the Mets ahead by a score of 2-0 entering the fifth.
The Yo Show would continue to carry the Mets as much as possible as Yoenis Cespedes would hit a two-run go ahead homer that would put the team on top by a score of 4-3. The homer was Cespedes’ 28th of the season. Alejandro De Aza would provide some cushion in the ninth with his sixth homer of the season, putting the Mets up ahead for good by a score of 5-3.
Notes:
Montero has now walked 10 batters in just 9.1 innings pitched for the Mets over his last two starts.
With tonight’s win, the Mets have now won their last five series’ in a row and are now 11-4 in their last 15 games.

The New York Mets go for the sweep Wednesday afternoon as they send Noah Syndergaard (12-8, 2.56 ERA) to the mound. Thor will be opposed by Anthony DeSclafani (8-2, 2.93 ERA) of the Reds. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 PM ET.
