The New York Mets could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their negotiations with National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey.
Or, maybe not.
The Mets plan to offer Dickey a two-year contract extension, according to major league sources. Whether Dickey would accept such a deal remains to be seen.

Team made a two-year offer to Dickey approximately two weeks ago, and both sides have been negotiating the dollars. As we’ve reported, Mets know he’ll take a two-year deal. A trade is still in play of course.
Negotiations between the Mets and ace R.A. Dickey have been ongoing since they began approximately two weeks ago with a two-year offer to Dickey, according to Mets sources. The two sides continue to discuss money and other terms.
The 38-year-old Dickey, who last week became just the third Mets’ pitcher to win the National League Cy Young Award, is believed to be willing to accept a deal that is probably less than the two-year, $29-million deal Jake Peavy has with the White Sox.
As the Daily News has been reporting, the Mets know that Dickey is willing to sign a two-year contract. He is under contract to the Mets for the 2013 season for $5 million.
This is more like snooze than it is news. This was already reported last week, and nothing’s really changed. It’s just old news being recycled on a slow news day…
