Game One: Game Summary

Mets get out slugged as DJ Carrasco gets over matched against the Braves’ long balls. The bullpen holds together, and the offense fell silent. Mets lose the first game of the double header, 4-2 to the Braves.

Game Notes

When the Mets chose DJ Carrasco to start for them in a pinch spot, they new it would be a long shot. They did not know it would become literal. Three balls left the yard in just the first four innings all coming off the Braves’ bats. He threw over 80 pitches in 3.2 innings of work with allowing three runs on four hits, three walks and struck out two batters. Now he will not be available for a good two-three days, and these double-headers are gonna ware out the already drained bullpen. Not a great choice by Collins.

Iggy continues to have a good come back into the majors with getting his only batter out. Misch pitched two innings in relief giving up one run on one homerun, one walk, and struck out two. Parnell also pitched two innings, allowing no runs, one hit, two walks, three strike outs.

The offense fell silence when they Mets easily could have taken the lead. Only Willie Harris and Jose Reyes had RBIs.

Wright: 0-4, 2 K
Davis: 0-3, K
Emaus: 0-4, K
Total of six hits, and 1-6 with RISP. No bueno.

Turning Point

All of the homeruns that kept the Braves scoring.

Game Ball

Parnell had the best outing in that game.

Game Two: Game Summary

Pelfrey continues to struggle as he gets tagged for eleven hits and four runs in five innings against the Braves. And just like the first game, the bullpen was there, but the bats were not. Mets continue their lose streak with a 4-0 loss to the Braves.

Game Notes

Mike Pelfrey still has yet to find his rhythm yet as he gets take out after five innings. There just always seemed to be runners on bases when Pelfrey is pitching. After five innings, four runs have come across on eleven hits and surprisingly only one walk. He struck out three and had another one of his ‘yips.’ When your “Ace” is Mike Pelfrey with an ERA over 9, you know you are in trouble. Pelfrey receives his second loss of the season.

Pedro Beato continues some great bullpen outings with two hitless innings and three strikeouts. He has yet to strike up an ERA. And I didn’t think anything of him during Spring Training. Taylor Buchholz also provided a hitless inning with a K.

Wow, I thought the offense was bad in the first game…this one was just ridiculous. Two total hits. Yupp, you read that right. I understand that it’s Jurrjens, but just two hits is sad. The biggest hit was a double by Murphy, who later made a terrible decision to try to steal third when the Mets were down by three at the time and got himself caught stealing. Just sad.

Turning Point

It was all down hill for the Mets

Game Ball

Beato and Buchholz for three hitless innings.

Up Next

Dillon Gee will have his first start of the season in replace of Chris Young tomorrow. He will be going up against Tommy Hanson (1-2, 3.38) and the Braves. Game time is 1:35 PM.

PS. I hate listening to Mets games on Fox. They said the wrong names, gave out the wrong stats, couldn’t pronounce names correctly, the Mets side of the scoreboard was off the screen, the announcer’s anti-Mets comments, and they didn’t even know what an oblique muscle was. Ugh!
