The Mets lose the rubber game against the Marlins, 11-4. Niese was doing well early but just fell apart in the sixth inning. Bullpen was good minus Feliciano and Dessens. Wright had another homerun and a pair of RBIs on the night.

Game Summary

Jon Niese had a great beginning of the game for the Mets. He struck out a pair for each of the first three innings and ending the game with eight strikeouts, tying for a career high. However, Niese fell apart in the sixth inning giving up six runs in just that inning alone. He would end the day going 5.2 innings pitched, giving up seven runs on five hits, a hit batsman, three walks and a homerun. Niese has pitched so well in his last starts. Tough to see him not keep that streak going.

Elmer Dessens came in to relieve Niese in the sixth inning. Didn’t bring in much relief though as he allowed two runs on three hits before getting his one out on the night. Manny Acosta came into the seventh and eighth innings and pitched a 1-2-3 inning for both with a strikeout. Pedro Feliciano, a day after his birthday, got the nod for the ninth and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk before getting his one out. Igarashi got the last two outs in the inning with a strikeout.

Mets offense had a lot going for them early in the game. Getting all four runs in the first three inning of the game. But it was all for not as they couldn’t get anything else after that.

David Wright had the biggest game of the night. He had two hits on the night with a homerun, two walks, and two RBIs. Wright now has back-to-back games with homeruns.

Pagan and Francoeur both had a multiple hit night and an RBI.

Jose Reyes was taken out of the game in the third inning with a “Re-aggravated right oblique strain.” Oh boy.

Umps made another bad call in the third inning when the first base ump called Tejada out when the replay showed he was safe. Cost the Mets another run, but the call was never reversed and the game played on.

Turning Point

The sixth inning when the Marlins started scoring like crazy.

David Wright had the best offensive night for the Mets.
