As the Mets search for potential first base depth, an option that has surfaced is Adam Lind.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, Lind is among the names of first basemen New York will consider.

The 34-year-old spent 2017 with the rival Washington Nationals where he hit .303/.362/.513 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 301 plate appearances.

Earlier this month, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Dominic Smith is not a lock to be the team’s every day first baseman in 2018.

“He didn’t win it in September, let’s put it that way,” Alderson said.

Smith appeared in 49 games for New York this past season and hit .198/.262/.395 with nine homers and 26 RBI in 183 plate appearances.

In the field, he committed two errors while having a -7 DRS and -0.8 UZR in 378 innings.

Alderson also added that his weight is something that is going to have to be worked on going forward.

“Dominic’s going to have to be careful about his conditioning, certainly in the next few years if not throughout his career,” he said.

If the team chooses to start Smith in Triple-A, a platoon of Lind and Wilmer Flores at first could be a solution.

Lind slashed .303/.364/.534 against righties last season, while Flores hit .291/.309/.553 against lefties in 110 plate appearances.

The long time Major Leaguer also spent time in the outfield last season, so could be used out there if need be.
