Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the New York Mets have interest in acquiring Starling Marte via trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Marte, 31, is coming off a season in which he hit .295/.342/.503 with 23 homers and 82 RBI to give himself a 119 wRC+ and 3.0 fWAR. He also stole 25 bases in 2019.

Defensively, he struggled in center field this past season as he had -9 DRS and a -7.6 UZR in 1,141 1/3 innings. However, in 2018, he registered 1 DRS and a 3.2 UZR.

The Mets’ interest in Marte certainly isn’t surprising given their center field need and the fact that Marte can be under club control for each of the next two seasons.

Marte is set to make $11.5 million in 2020 and has a $12.5 million club option for the 2021 season.
