Noah Syndergaard (torn lat) is long tossing from 120-150 feet, but is not yet throwing any bullpen sessions. He spoke to Roger Rubin of Newsday earlier today.

“Whether September, and we’re in it or not, I just want to go out there and compete because I am just getting bored,” Snydergaard said. “I want to go out there and pitch. If I weren’t to pitch this year I’d probably go nine or ten months without competing in a meaningful game so I don’t want to let that time go by.”

Syndergaard had a 3.27 ERA in his five starts earlier in the year before he went on the disabled list on April 30th.

Matt Harvey has made more progress as he threw a bullpen session on Sunday as he works his way back from a scapula injury. Harvey and Syndergaard started their rehab at similar times, but Harvey appears likely to be the first of the two to return to the team. He isn’t expected back until sometime in September, but will throw another bullpen session on Wednesday. It will be difficult to know what to expect once he returns as he struggled with a 5.25 ERA in his 13 starts before getting hurt.

Juan Lagares (fractured thumb) is moving close to returning to the team as he played another rehab game in Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. He went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Lagares started his rehab assignment on Tuesday and should return to the team soon after missing close to two months (went on the DL on June 15th).

Robert Gsellman (hamstring) pitched in the Double-A Binghamton’s game yesterday and the results were rather disappointing. He lasted only 2.1 innings while allowing six runs in his third rehab appearance. He is also not far off from a return to the roster, and possibly could take the spot of either Chris Flexen or Rafael Montero in the very near future. Gsellman has a 5-5 record and 6.15 ERA in his 17 appearances (14 starts).
