The New York Mets Tuesday released medical updates on their players, including Dominic Smith, Jay Bruce, Juan Lagares, Tim Tebow, Jacob deGrom and Yoenis Cespedes.
-Contrary to reports from manager Mickey Callaway on Monday, Smith’s MRI confirmed that he is suffering with a strained right quad. He will gradually return to baseball activity.
-Bruce, who has been dealing with plantar fasciitis, will make his Spring debut Tuesday afternoon against the Houston Astros as a designated hitter.
-Lagares is still working his way back from a strained left hamstring and is considered day-to-day.
-Tebow, who sprained his ankle after stepping on a sprinkler in the outfield last week, is available to hit Tuesday.
-DeGrom is a new addition to this list. He is suffering from lower back stiffness and will continue his throwing progression.
-Cespedes is day-to-day with shoulder soreness.
