Mets took game one against the Brewers thanks to a strong start from Jon Niese and bombs from Murphy and Duda. The offensive night led the Mets to a 7-3 victory in Milwaukee.
Jon Niese had a great start, and had strong offense behind him. He needed that offense early, as he gives up two quick runs on three straight hits in the second. Niese bounced back nicely with several more zeros to keep the Mets in the lead. Niese got pulled after the sixth when he started to tire, but still finished strong. His line ends with six innings pitched, two runs allowed on six hits, three runs, while striking out five batters.
Josh Edgin and Jon Rauch combine for a scoreless seventh. Bobby Parnell handled the eighth with two hits allowed, but no runs against him. Ramon Ramirez was given the ninth and allowed an RBI triple.
Mets had an offensive explosion tonight including a rare two homers in a game to total seven runs.
Daniel Murphy had one hit, a two-run homer, his sixth home run of the season.
Lucas Duda had a big night, two hits including a homer and an RBI double.
Josh Thole even contributed with an RBI double in the sixth. He also walked and struck out in the game.
David Wright also had two hits tonight with a run scored and two strikeouts.
Ruben Tejada, Ike Davis, and Andres Torres all had 0-fers.
Notes
David Wright is the only player left on the Mets with an average over .300 with a .315.
