Andy Martino of SNY reports that the Mets have looked into acquiring relievers to help the team in deals for some of the team’s players that are available.

According to him, one name the Mets have discussed acquiring is Amir Garrett from the Cincinnati Reds, who became a decently notable name on Tuesday night for his involvement in a brawl between his team and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Garrett, 27, is having a career year in 2019 as he has a 2.21 ERA, 3.33 FIP, and 1.254 WHIP and is averaging 13.3 K/9 as compared to 4.9 BB/9 across 47 appearances (40 2/3 innings). However, his career 5.06 ERA and 5.18 FIP should serve as reasons for caution on the Mets part.

The left-hander is under control through the 2023 season and won’t be arbitration-eligible until after the 2020 season. He is currently making the league minimum.

While it is a little surprising to hear they have been looking into adding to their bullpen given the fact many labeled them as sellers, it is not a complete shock given the team has been looking into acquiring players that can help them both now and next season.
