Earlier this offseason, Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports speculated that free agent infielder Mike Moustakas could be a fit for the Mets. Mike Puma of the New York Post, is now reporting that the Mets had discussed signing the veteran Moustakas to bolster their offense.

Puma notes that the discussion was before the signing of catcher Wilson Ramos, and he’s not sure how that has changed the dynamic.

Moustakas, 30, hit .251/.315/.459 with 33 doubles, 28 home runs and 95 RBI in 2018 between the Royals and Brewers. He posted a 2.5 bWAR, his highest since his 4.4 bWAR in 2015.

The left-handed hitter had 2 defensive runs saved and 1.0 UZR at third last season, he also played four games at first base.

Veteran Todd Frazier is currently penciled in as the Mets starting third baseman despite a disappointing 2018 season. He will be a free agent after the 2019 season.
