The New York Mets third and final candidate to be their next general manager, Chaim Bloom, released the following statement on Thursday afternoon, “We had a productive meeting yesterday. There was a lot of baseball conversation and I enjoyed the time we spent together.”
Bloom, currently the Tampa Bay Rays’ senior vice president of baseball operations, didn’t participate in a conference call with New York media “out of respect for his current role.”
The 35-year-old Bloom interviewed for the Mets vacant position on Wednesday night. He’s a finalist along with Milwaukee Brewers’ senior adviser Doug Melvin and agent Brodie Van Wagenen. Wagenen also released a statement instead of a conference call, given his conflict of interest. Melvin talked to the media on Tuesday.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reported today that general managerial candidate Chaim Bloom will not speak to the media, and will instead release a statement, contrary to previous reporting.
Bloom had his second interview for the job on Wednesday, but due to the timing of the interview during the day, the media availability was scheduled for sometime today.
Bloom, 35, was never favored to be the choice to be the next general manager.
The other two candidates in the final round, Doug Melvin and Brodie Van Wagenen, concluded interviews earlier this week.
Melvin spoke to the media, and Van Wagenen released a statement, avoiding a conflict of interest as he represents multiple Mets players, both active and in the minor leagues.
With Bloom’s interview yesterday, the second round of interviews has concluded and the Mets brass will now begin the process of deciding who the next general manager will be.
