The Mets lost both games Saturday and Sunday, giving the Diamondbacks a sweep. Here’s a brief recap of what happened:

Saturday

D-Backs 6 – Mets 4

Mike Pelfrey was pitching a solid game, until a line drive hit him on the elbow and he had to be removed from the game.in the start of the fifth inning. D.J. Carrasco, who had been good of late gave up a three-run HR to Ryan Roberts, and the Mets offense couldn’t mount enough offense off of D-Backs starter Daniel Hudson, who went eight innings.

Mike Baxter (RBI triple) Ruben Tejada (Two-RBI single) and Mike Pelfrey (RBI Single) amounted for all of the Mets offense. Ronny Paulino went 2-4, and continues to hit when he is given the chance. The problem with Mets catchers isn’t inability to hit – its inability to throw runners out, and in Josh Thole’s case prevent errors. Harris, Wright, Duda, Bay went 0-14 and that isn’t a way to win a game. Ruben Tejada has looked better at the plate since his return, but his glove-work has been spotty

Random Thoughts – The Mets seem to be able to put up 4 or so runs on a nightly basis, but the pitching hasn’t been able to make that stick and it is reflected in the win-loss record of most pitchers.

Sunday

D-Backs 5 – Mets 3

Chris Capuano couldn’t hold a lead for the Mets, and it all fell apart in the later innings for Capuano. He allowed all four of his runs after the third, and he just hasn’t looked sharp as of lately. The bullpen faltered, with Ryota Igarashi allowing one hit and walking two, including walking in a run. Acosta, Byrdak and Beato were unscathed.

Lucas Duda hit an elusive HR to start the fourth, and the Mets knocked in another two runs on a Justin Turner double and a Lucas Duda single. The Mets had a big chance with Pagan on third and one out, but couldn’t capitalize. Bay & Thole had bad days at the plate, and a poor defensive play by Josh Thole allowed a run to score on a wild pitch

Game Ball – Lucas Duda, 2 for 3 with a run, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout. Good day at the plate.

Random Thoughts – Josh Thole’s defense seems to keep deteriorating, and its only a matter of time before a Paulino/Nickeas battery seems appropriate.

Overall, a bad weekend for pitching even thought the offense has still struggled in some key situations to put runners across.
