The Mets were unable to avoid the sweep and fell to the upstart Marlins 13-4 in front of a sparse crowd at Citi Field.

Florida had played the role of spoilers against the Mets in 2007 and 2008, as they twice killed the Mets’ playoff hopes with some hard fought games. They relished and danced over the misery they inflicted on the Mets. We all hoped the Mets would return the favor as the Marlins continued to stay alive in the wild card hunt and the fight for the division. Unfortunately, the Marlins are just too good.

Bobby Parnell started and it was pretty ugly right from the start, when he allowed three runs to score, two of them coming when he walked two batters with the bases loaded. Ouch… He is now 0-4 in his last five starts and has allowed at least five earned runs in four of those games. His ERA now stands at 5.49 with a 3-8 record. Is this experiment over yet?

The bullpen wasn’t any better as Sean Green, Pedro Feliciano and Lance Broadway all allowed runs as well. One bright spot was the major league debut of Tobi Stoner who pitched one scoreless inning in relief of Parnell.

Offensively, the Mets banged out 10 hits to go with their 10 strikeouts with Jeff Francoeur and Angel Pagan leading the way with three hits a piece.

Beltran got the game off, and rumor has it Wright may get a day off tomorrow.

This team can be so frustrating to figure out…

I’m so tired of all the back and forth as far as quality innings go from this team. I’m dumbfounded by the unbelievable amount of walks this team gives up. It’s embarrassing. Is it that hard to get these guys to throw strikes?

I’m so sick of all the inconsistency from Pelfrey, Parnell, Misch, and everybody else. Can’t anybody on this team play this game?

Is anybody learning or improving as they go along?

I know that this may be asking for too much, but I wish that in the last three weeks, that just one of these pitchers can step up and show me something!

Anything!

Show me that one of you have the ability to pitch two solid games in a row!

Give us a shred of hope to hang onto for next season…
