New York Mets 2018 first round pick Jarred Kelenic is showing that his offensive game is advanced for the Gulf Coast League through his first nine professional games.

Kelenic, 18, went 2-for-4 with a walk, RBI and two stolen bases on Thursday for the GCL Mets as they won 7-3 over the GCL Nationals and moved to 10-5 on the season.

The sweet swinging lefty is now hitting .472/.525/.639 with two doubles, two triples, six RBI, eight runs scored and four stolen bases in nine games. He has a hit in all nine games and multiple hits in six of them.

Known for his strong arm in center field, Kelenic also has two outfield assists already in seven starts.

Looking at his small sample size splits, it’s impressive to see that he’s been good against both lefties (1.200 OPS) and righties (1.139) to begin his career.

It shouldn’t be much longer until the sixth overall pick gets the promotion to the Appalachian League to play for the Kingsport Mets.
