The New York Mets have promoted their 2019 first round pick Brett Baty to rookie-level Kingsport, the team confirmed. Kenneth Lavin was the first to tweet that the team had made the move.
Baty, 19, hit .350/.480/.650 with one home run, eight RBI and five walks over five games with the GCL Mets. That was topped off with a grand slam in his final game.
The third baseman was selected by the Mets No. 12 overall from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas.
The Mets inked Baty to a $3.9 million signing bonus a little over two weeks ago. They were able to sign him underslot, as the No. 12 pick value for this year’s draft was $4.36 million.
Below is a video of Baty clubbing his aforementioned grand slam.
