The order for the MLB draft is now set with James Shields signing with the San Diego Padres. Since the Mets forfeited their first round pick to sign free agent Michael Cuddyer, they will not make a selection until number 53 during the second round according to Baseball America.

This is the first draft during Sandy Alderson’s tenure as General Manager that the Mets do not have a first round pick.

Previous  first round picks under Alderson have been Brandon Nimmo, Gavin Cecchini, Dominic Smith and Michael Conforto. The last time the Mets did not pick in the first round was in 2009 when Omar Minaya signed closer Francisco Rodriguez to a large free agent contract.
