Buffalo Bisons 4 – Norfolk Tides 2

Pat Misch had arguably his best start of the year even though he didn’t get the victory. His only main trouble was in the 4th inning when the Tides pieced together three singles to get the inning started and load the bases. A sac fly scored one batter, but then Misch recorded one of his seven strikeouts in a huge situation to help him out. He would get out of the inning with a weak pop up to second base. Other than that the pitching staff pretty much breezed through the game. Ryota Igarashi pitched two scoreless for his third save.

There is some good news about the offense that was spectacular, but there is also some bad news to report. In the 1st inning Zach Lutz got the Bisons on the board with a solo home run, his third home in the last five games. In his next at-bat, however, Lutz was beaned in the head and had to leave the game. Lutz walked off under his own power, but with his luck who knows what will happen. I feel really bad for Lutz who is the only person that can rival Fernando Martinez in the injury department. Speaking of F-Mart he went deep for his 5th home run of the season.

Stars of the Game: 1. Zach Lutz (1-for-1, HR, R, RBI, HBP) (29pts) 2. Pat Misch (6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 SO) (2pts) 3. Fernando Martinez (1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, 2 K)

Binghamton Mets 5 – Bowie Baysox 3

Tobi Stoner pitched beautifully today. He went seven deep allowing just five hits and a walk, while striking out four. Stoner has now been successful with four consecutive quality(ish) starts after getting shelled in the five starts before that. Maybe he is not completely done as I had previously thought. Once Stoner left the Baysoxs jumped all over the bullpen. They put up two runs against Erik Turgeon on four singles and two walks. Then Rhiner Cruz nearly imploded in the 9th while trying to record the save, as he walked the first three batters of the inning before getting out with just one run against on two strikeouts and a groundout.

The story of the game was Josh Satin who hit for the cycle. In the first inning he got the home run out of the way. In the third inning he reached on an infield single to the shortstop. In the 5th he doubled deep to center and then finally in the 7th inning Satin hit a line drive into the left field corner and stretched it into a triple to complete the cycle. To complete his amazing day he walked in the 9th. In the midst of hitting for the cycle Satin scored twice and drove in two runs. Jordany Valdespin picked up two more hits. He is picking up multi-hit games at a “Reyesian” pace.

Stars of the Game: 1. Josh Satin (4-for-4, 2B, 3B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) (57pts) 2. Tobi Stoner (W, 7 IP, 5 H, BB, 4 SO) (2pts) 3. Jordany Valdespin (2-for-5, R, CS) (40pts)

St. Lucie Mets – Jupiter Hammerheads (PPD)

Savannah Sand Gnats 2 – Augusta GreenJackets 1

Angel Cuan got his first start of the year and was taken out after three innings despite throwing a perfect game. I understand not wanted to push him too far, but he has thrown up to three innings in relief this year so he should have been able to go a little deeper with the perfect game, but it is what it is. The no-hitter was still intact after four innings even though the GreenJackets put a run up on the board against Adam Kolarek (walk, sac bunt, wild pitch, sac fly). Kolarek gave up a single with two outs in the fifth to end the bid.

Aderlin Rodriguez led off the 4th with a double and then came around to score on two groundouts. The 5th inning was pretty interesting because Luis Nieves doubled and it appeared Darrell Ceciliani had singled him home, but he was just beat out by the throw. Wilfredo Tovar walked and then Ceciliani stole third and scored on Rafael Fernandez‘s single.

Stars of the Game: 1. Rafael Fernandez (2-for-3, RBI) (24pts) 2. Darrell Ceciliani (1-for-4, R, SB, K) (27pts) 3. Angel Cuan (3 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, SO) (1pt)

Savannah Sand Gnats 2 – Augusta GreenJackets 5

A very meh performance from Yohan Almonte. He gave up four in five innings and while he got eight groundball outs he struckout just one and walked three. He continues to be a tease flashing some back of the rotation potential, but than looking like a middle reliever at times.

The Gnats actually held the lead briefly in this game when Aderlin Rodriguez singled home two runs in the 4th. The offense as a whole were able to put together just two hits. Darrell Ceciliani walked twice.

Stars of the Game: 1. Aderlin Rodriguez (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 K) (35pts) 2. Darrell Ceciliani (0-for-1, R, 2 BB) (29pts) 3. Wilfredo Tovar (0-for-, R, BB) (18pts)

Brooklyn Cyclones 1 – Hudson Valley 5

Jeff Walters had another mixed outing. He came out firing and struckout two batters in the 1st inning. Then the walks started to get him into trouble. In the 2nd he gave up a walk and then a hard hit single to get first and third, but yielded a double play to get himself out of the inning unscathed. Then in the 3rd he walked the leadoff batter who stole second, was moved to third on a ground out, and singled home. Walters picked up another double play to get out of the inning without much harm. He walked yet another batter in the 5th who would come around to score on a wild pitch. The potential is evident with that sinker and it doesn’t hurt to try this experiment out, but much like with Ryan Fraser he probably becomes a reliever.

The Brooklyn offense has seemingly gone into a mini coma. They were no hit through 6.2 innings tonight and managed just two hits after that. Their first hit of the ball game scored a run when Lucas Stewart tripled home Richard Lucas, who reached on a strikeout passed ball. Richard Lucas had the other hit with a two out single in the 9th.

Stars of the Game: 1. Lucas Stewart (1-for-3, 3B, RBI, BB) (4pts) 2. Jeff Walters (5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 SO, 7/2 GO/AO) (2pts) 3. Richard Lucas (1-for-4, R, 2 K) (1pt)

Kingsport Mets 8 – Bristol White Sox 6

Brian Valenzuela earned his first career win in three seasons (although just nine games) despite being terribly wild. He only walked two over his five innings, but he hit three batters. Dawrin Frias earned the save with a perfect inning.

Alex Sanchez hit a two-run homer and stole a base. Greg Pron continues to impress early on with three hits, including a triple, and stealing a base.

Stars of the Game: 1. Greg Pron (3-for-4, 3B, 2 R, SB) (7pts) 2. Alex Sanchez (1-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, SB) (2pts) 3. Dustin Lawley (2-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI, K) (1pt)

GCL Mets 3 – GCL Cardinals 5

Rafael Montero was victimized by his defense that allowed three unearned runs to score. It is interesting that the Mets promoted from the DSL to GCL during the season, but looking at his stats it makes sense. In 18 innings in the DSL he gave up just 2 runs and 7 hits while striking out 20 and walking 0.

50th round pick, Eddie Rohan, went 1-for-3 with an RBI and walk.

Dimas Ponce, the 140 lbs. third baseman, went 1-for-5 with a run scored and triple.

Stars of the Game: 1. Ryan Hutson (0-for-1, R, 3 BB, K) (3pts) 2. Eddie Rohan (1-for-3, RBI, BB) (2pts) 3. Eudy Pina (1-for-5, R, RBI, 2 K)(2pts)
