Fresno 8, Las Vegas 6

After jumping out to a 6-1 lead to start the game, the Las Vegas 51’s bullpen couldn’t hold on for the win as the Fresno Grizzlies scored 7 runs in the top of the 9th inning to give the 51’s their first loss of the season.  Jacob deGrom was solid in his first outing of the season going six innings and allowing just one run while striking out 6.  The game seemed to be in hand until the ball was turned over to relief pitcher Josh Edgin.  Edgin lasted just two-thirds of an inning and allowed five runs.  It didn’t get any better once Erik Goeddel came in for Edgin.  The two runs he gave up were just too much for the 51’s to come back from.  Zach Lutz added another hit to raise his season average to .545 and also drove in two more runs.  Logan Verrett goes tomorrow for the 51’s who are hoping to get back on track. Binghamton 6, Akron 3 Game 1

Rainy Lara goes 5.1 innings giving up three runs on eight hits and Jayce Boyd and Dustin Lawley each drove in a pair as the Binghamton Mets beat the Akron RubberDucks 6-2 in game one of the doubleheader.  Lara picked up his first win of the season doing just enough to get the job done.  Adam Kolarek finished off the sixth inning for Lara and Chase Bradford came in and closed the game out for the B-Mets who improve to 1-1 on the season. Akron 3, Binghamton 0 Game 2

Tyler Pill lasted just four ineffective innings, as the Binghamton Mets lose the second game of the double header against Akron 3-2.  The Mets were unable to get anything going against Akron’s Toru Murata, getting just three hits off the 28-year old.  The bright spot for the Mets in the second game had to be the relief help from John Church and Jon Velasquez who threw three innings without giving up a hit while striking out four RubberDucks.  Tomorrow is the rubber game of the three-game set with Hansel Robles scheduled to go for Binghamton. Palm Beach 8, St. Lucie 3

A 3-run first inning by the Palm Beach Cardinals was too much for the St. Lucie Mets to overcome as they fall to 1-2 on the season after an 8-3 drubbing in Florida State League Action.  Michael Fulmer went for the St. Lucie Mets and was pulled in the fourth inning after surrendering seven runs on 11 hits.  Seth Lugo came in for Fulmer and went the rest of the way for the Mets.  Gilbert Gomez had a nice day out of the ninth spot for the Mets on a rather dreary day, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double.  Gomez also scored two of the three Mets’ runs.  St. Lucie looks to right the ship tomorrow against the Cardinals with Domingo Tapia getting the start. Lakewood 6, Savannah 2

The Savannah SandGnats drop to 1-2 on the season after losing to the Lakewood BlueClaws 6-2.  SandGnats starter Chris Flexen got knocked around in his first start of the season lasting just 4.2 innings giving up five of the six Lakewood runs.  Victor Cruzado hit his first home run of the season for Savannah but it wasn’t nearly enough.  The BlueClaws pitching struck out 11 SandGnats total on the day, led by their starter Alejandro Arteaga who was responsible for six of them.  Savannah looks to get back to .500 tomorrow with Kevin McGowan on the bump.
