Buffalo Bisons (1-1)

The Bisons picked up their first victory of the season on Friday night, edging Pawtucket by a score of 2-1. Omar Quintanilla clinched the win with a ninth-inning RBI single to break the 1-1 deadlock.

Jeurys Familia started for Buffalo and worked 4.2 innings, allowing just one run on five hits and three walks. The 22-year old struck out four and threw 95 pitches in his debut with the Bisons.

Dylan Owen (1-0) got the win with some impressive relief work out of the bullpen. He tossed 3.1 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits on the night. Fernando Cabrera capped things off and pitched the ninth inning for his first save of the season.

Binghamton Mets (0-2)

Zack Wheeler, the Mets #1 ranked prospect, lasted just three innings in his first start for for the B-Mets who fell to the Akron Aeros 2-1 last night. Wheeler allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters. He got into trouble in the first inning and was able to squeak by without any real damage, but in the third inning his wildness got the best of him and he allowed two runs to score before registering the final out.

The B-Mets bullpen did a solid job of keeping Akron scoreless after Wheeler came out of the game. Relievers Edgar Ramirez, Elvin Ramirez, Brad Holt and Josh Edgin combined to throw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight. Edgin just keeps mowing them down.

The offense was stagnant again, and the only run of the game came when Jefry Marte singled home Allan Dykstra in the fourth inning. Pedro Zapata had a couple of hits.

Savannah Sand Gnats (1-1)

The Gnats lost their first game of the season in heart-breaking fashion when Augusta rallied and scored three runs in the 9th inning to win the game, 6-5. Savannah got on the board with a 1-0 lead in the first and later added to that in the fifth when third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez ripped a three-run double deep to right-center field to put the Gnats up 4-0. The Gnats scored again when Cam Maron doubled, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Dustin Lawley to put them up 5-3.

Starting pitcher, Rafael Montero pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs on four hits, no walks, and struck out four. Estarlin Morel took the loss and was charged with three runs on three hits and a walk in his inning of work.

Hey, I’m looking for someone to do Minor League Reports like this one. Not interested in any cutting and pasting from team reports, just original short summaries like you see here. I want to have a team of 2-3 bloggers to do these so we can share the load and I can promise you plenty of opportunities for interviews with the prospects for the right persons and an opportunity to be read by over 11,000+ different readers and passionate Mets fans every day. Our goal is to have a 10-person team covering the draft and the minors under the leadership of our MMO Minor League Senior Editor, Pete Shapiro. Email me at [email protected] if interested. Pete is currently on assignment in Binghamton to cover the B-Mets, and will return on Monday.
