Mets Farm Report: August 2nd, 2011

Buffalo Bisons 3 – Rochester Red Wings 7

Just as it seemed he was getting some consistency at Triple-A, SMACK! Mark Cohoon throws this clunker up there. Cohoon wasn’t missing any bats and got clobbered throughout the entire start. He faced all nine hitters in the 1st inning that included four runs, two hit by pitches, three singles, and a double. Two of the runs scored with two outs. In the 2nd he was fortunate the man who led off the inning with a single made a baserunning blunder and got doubled off first trying to tag up on a fly ball to Nick Evans. In the 3rd he allowd another run and walked two to make it four free passes for the game. He faced just three batters in the 5th inning, got one out, and left the game with runners on the corners. Mike O’Conner allowed both of those runners to score.

The offense was okay, but could have been better. They had four men reach with two outs in the 3rd inning, but got just one run out of the scenario. They had loaded bases with no outs in the 6th and again came away with just one run, a sac fly from Ruben Tejada. With two outs in the 9th, Josh Satin hit a double to bring home the final run of the game. Satin had two hits today to increase his hitting streak to 10 games. He has a hit in 11 of his 12 games in Triple-A and already has 10 RBI to bring his season total to 70.

Binghamton Mets 3 – Altoona Curve 11

A couple of fireballers getting absolutely obliterated. Jeurys Familia was perfect in the 1st and then the disastrous 2nd inning happened. It was inning where Familia struckout three and there were a total of four men struckout just to show how great of an inning it was. Familia gave up two singles to lead things off, got a swinging strikeout, threw a wild pitch to move the runners to second and third, and then struckout a batter on a wild pitch that allowed him to go safely to first and score a run. He then gave up an RBI single, threw another wild pitch, gave up another single that scored two this time, and finally walked two men before being pulled. Familia gets a mulligan just coming off the DL, but two walks and three wild pitches in 1.2 innings is awful. Rhiner Cruz tried to make Familia feel a little bit better by giving up six runs in just 1.2 innings and thus making Familia the second worst pitcher of the day. Brad Holt was great yet again. He threw 21 pitches and 17 for strikes. Absolutely no command issues today.

Binghamton lead this game after the 1st inning when Matt Den Dekker started things with a triple and scored on a groundout. The B-Mets had RISP in both the 2nd and 3rd, but couldn’t score. Allan Dykstra brought in the last two runs with a homer in the 4th and double in the 8th. Juan Lagares is still batting .400 after 10 games.

Savannah Sand Gnats 8 – Augusta GreenJackets 3

Things looked like they would be just another mediocre start for Yohan Almonte early on, but he ended up with a pretty good start. Almonte walked the leadoff man in the 3rd, who came in to score on a triple from the next batter and then allowed a sac fly to score the second run of the inning. Almonte went on to allow no more runs and last six innings while striking out six men. He was a bit wild (three walks and three wild pitches), but it didn’t come around to bite him today. Albert Cordero‘s terrific half season continued with a double and homerun toady. He last two months are a complete revelation from his first two months. Rafael Fernandez had two doubles, including a bases loaded double that notched him three RBI.

Brooklyn Cyclones 2 – Williamsport Crosscutters 7

Randy Fontanez continues to impress, Ernesto Yanez hasn’t had quiet nearly the same success in the NYPL as the GCL, Tyler Pill‘s NYPL debut was perfect. Javier Rodriguez had himself a game with two extra base hits and an outfield assist to cut down a run at home.
