Buffalo 4 – Lehigh Valley 1

Chris Schwinden turned in a solid performance to improve to 2-1 as the Bisons defeated the Iron Pigs 4-1. Schwinny allowed just one run on four hits and a walk in seven innings of work and lowered his ERA to 2.25 for the season. Jack Egbert followed with a perfect inning of relief, and closer Fernando Cabrera picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless inning.

The Bisons got on the board in the fifth inning when catcher Lucas May tripled to drive home Vinny Rottino, and then scored on an Omar Quintanilla groundout. Second baseman Bobby Scales had two hits including his second homer of the season and scored two runs. And that my friends, was all she wrote.

Herd Rumblings: Jordany Valdespin finished the game 0-4 and saw his seven-game hit streak come to an end. Bobby Scales continued his amazing on-base streak with two more hits tonight. Scales has now reached base at least twice in all ten games he’s started this season and leads the league with a .444 batting average. Lucas may hit the first triple of the season for the Bisons. Going into the game, the Bisons’ pitching staff had issued 66 walks in the 12 games — the most at any level of professional baseball.

Binghamton 10 – New Hampshire 6

Behind their largest single inning run total of the young 2012 season, the Binghamton Mets defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Manchester on Tuesday night by a final score of 10-6. Six runs in the third frame proved to be the clincher for the B-Mets, as they batted through the order and chased the Fisher Cats starter Chad Jenkins after 2 2/3rds. Four singles, two doubles and a triple by Rylan Sandoval capped off the inning.

Collin McHugh improved his season record to 2-1 with the win, pitching five innings, striking out six and allowing one run – a second inning solo home run by Mark Sobolewski. The B-Mets lone home run in the game was hit in the fifth inning, a solo shot as well by second baseman Josh Rodriguez.

Matt den Dekker went 2/5, with a run scored on two hits and one RBI. Catcher Juan Centeno had two doubles in the game, going 2/5 as well with two runs scored and one RBI.

B-Mets Buzz: First baseman Allan Dykstra broke his left arm in a collision with Portland SS Derrik Gibson, on a bunt attempt at first base on Saturday. Infielder Rylan Sandoval was added to the B-Mets active roster. Outfielder Matt den Dekker extended his hitting streak to nine games, the longest streak for any B-Met this season, and is batting .364 (12-for-22) over the stretch. Josh Edgin allowed his first run of 2012 (including spring training) when he was taken deep by Brad Glenn of the Fisher Cats. Zack Wheeler takes the hill when the B-Mets play the rubber match tonight at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. After that they head home for a four game set against the Portland Sea Dogs, AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

St. Lucie 6 – Charlotte 1

Starter Gonzalez Germen with another spectacular performance tonight as the Sand Gnats edged the Stone Crabs 2-1. Germen allowed just two hits in the game and one earned run in 5.1 innings and improved to 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA. John Church, Adam Kolarek and Adrian Rosario did a bang up job out of the pen, combining for 3.2 scoreless innings allowing just one hit, no walks and five Ks. Sweet!

Third baseman Wilmer Flores (.286) shined at the plate going 2-3 with two doubles, a walk and two RBIs. Center fielder Cesar Puello also had a good night picking up two hits while driving in and scoring a run. Second baseman Danny Muno batted leadoff and chipped in with an RBI single, drew a walk and scored two runs.

Lucie Logistics: St. Lucie has the day off and heads home for the start of a three game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals beginning on Thursday night.

Savannah 2 – Rome 1 (Suspended)

The Gnats got off to an early 2-1 lead thanks to an RBI triple from third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez who then came around to score on a sac fly by left fielder Dustin Lawley. But then a power failure caused the the lights to go out and the game was suspended after three innings of play.
