Going into this offseason the New York Mets are expected to make improving their National League worst bullpen a top priority a source told Matt Ehalt of North Jersey.

The Mets bullpen currently has a 4.84 ERA which ranks highest among NL teams and the second worst in baseball with only the Detroit Tigers 5.51 ERA topping them.

Walks and home runs have been a huge issue for the pen, the Mets have the third highest BB/9 at 4.23 and are tied for the third worst with 1.34 HR/9 this year.

Sandy Alderson looked to get a jump on helping the 2018 bullpen during the trade deadline when he acquired late-inning reliever AJ Ramos from the Miami Marlins and focused on relievers in return for his trade assets.

Ramos is under team control for 2018 along with Jeurys Familia and the Mets can bring back Jerry Blevins for a reasonable $7 million option.

“I like the fact we have those three and they are under control for another year. Rather than trying to sort through particular assignments, I’m glad we have a nucleus there of quality people I hope we can rely on going into next season,” Alderson told reporters on Wednesday.

The top of the free agent market will include Wade Davis, Jake McGee, Seung-hwan Oh, Joe Smith, Addison Reed and Steve Cishek.
