The Mets were busy in the 2022 MLB draft Sunday, getting four picks in the first two rounds. They selected Kevin Parada and Jett Williams in the first round, then Blade Tidwell and Nick Morabito in the second.

The Mets’ first selection is a power-hitting catcher from Georgia Tech. Parada batted .360 with a 1.161 OPS this season.

“I just can’t be any happier,” Parada said. “Just trying to soak it all in with my family and everything, but I’m so happy right now. I’m really excited to get going.”

He was ranked the No. 6 draft prospect by MLB and ended up going 11th, a pick the Mets received as compensation for failing to sign last year’s first-rounder Kumar Rocker.

“I want to win,” Parada said. “I’m a leader. I can hit. The whole goal is to win ballgames.”

Three picks later, the Mets selected Williams, a high school shortstop who stands at just 5-foot-8. Williams said he models his game after players like Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve and Mookie Betts.

“They kind of paved the way for me,” he said. “I look up to them just knowing that they’re the smaller stature guys. If they can do it, I can do it.”

With the Mets’ second-round pick at No. 52 overall, they took Tidwell, a pitcher from the University of Tennessee. Tidwell was ranked No. 27 by MLB, so the Mets were lucky to get him where they did. He reportedly throws in the mid-to-upper 90s.

The Mets got another compensation pick near the end of the night, this time for Noah Syndergaard, who signed with the Angels. They received the 75th pick out of the 80 that were selected Sunday night. With it, they took a high schooler named Nick Morabito.

Morabito was listed as a second baseman and shortstop in some prospect rankings, but he was announced as an outfielder. The Gonzaga College High School product was ranked No. 91 by MLB.

The Mets clearly had a successful first day of the draft. It’s not every year a team gets two first-round picks, along with an arguably first-round caliber talent in the second round. The Mets will look to continue that success into day two of the draft, which starts at 2 p.m. ET Monday and will cover rounds three through 10.

“I know they’re winning ballgames,” Parada said of the Mets. “I know that they got a lot of pieces and they want to win, so that’s important.”
