Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets have not made any trades before the deadline. Mike Puma reports that Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays were in on Zack Wheeler late, but the Mets didn’t pull the trigger on a deal.

The Mets were largely speculated to be major sellers before the deadline as they made Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, Edwin Diaz, and Todd Frazier available.

However, the only moves the Mets ended up making were acquiring Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Simeon Woods Richardson and Anthony Kay as well as sending Jason Vargas to the Philadelphia Phillies for catcher Austin Bossart.

Wheeler, 29, will hit the open market this offseason, but the Mets will have the option to give him a qualifying offer which he can either accept or decline, which would then give the Mets the ability to receive draft-pick compensation for the right-hander if he were to not resign.

The Mets rotation will feature Wheeler, Syndergaard, Stroman, Jacob deGrom, and Steven Matz the remainder of the season.
