The Mets announced on Friday before their game with the Marlins that they’ve added outfielder Tyler Naquin to the roster, recalled left-handed pitcher Sam Clay and right-handed pitcher Stephen Nogosek from Triple-A Syracuse, designated Travis Jankowski for assignment, and optioned David Peterson to Triple-A Syracuse. Right-handed reliever Drew Smith was placed on the injured list on the Mets’ off day with a right lat strain.

Naquin was acquired along with left-handed reliever Phillip Diehl on Thursday night from the Reds for prospects Jose Acuna and Hector Rodriguez. Diehl was added to the Triple-A Syracuse roster.

Clay has yet to make his Mets debut after they claimed him off waivers from the Phillies earlier this month. Clay allowed five runs in 1 2/3 innings in his most recent Triple-A outing for Syracuse.

The 27-year-old Nogosek has a 0.99 ERA in the minors this season and a 0.71 ERA in the majors with the Mets.

Fan favorite Travis Jankowski got off to a hot start with the Mets this season with bunt hits, stolen bases, and fine defensive plays but he is hitless in his last 29-bats and his OPS is down to .452.

Peterson has played a key role in the Mets rotation this season, though with starters getting healthy and multiple off days the Mets won’t need a fifth starter for some time. The lefty was used in a bullpen role on Wednesday but he allowed a game-tying two-run homer.
