After Friday night’s game, the New York Mets designated Hector Santiago for assignment and have recalled Chris Flexen from Triple-A Syracuse.

Santiago has struggled with the Mets. In eight appearances with the club, he is 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA. If he clears waivers, the Mets can either release him or outright him to Triple-A Syracuse. Santiago does have the option to refuse the assignment and become a free agent.

With respect to Flexen, he was recently converted to a reliever. In his lone relief appearance for Syracuse, he pitched two scoreless innings with a strikeout.

In addition to Flexen joining the bullpen, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports Tyler Bashlor will remain with the team. Bashlor had been called up today to serve as the 26th man in the bullpen. With him now staying, there will need to be a corresponding move.

Some of these moves have been precipitated by how much the Mets bullpen has struggled. Another important factor is Robert Gsellman having to leave the last game due to back stiffness.
