According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, a baseball source says the Mets could have both David Wright and R.A. Dickey agreeing to sign extensions with the Mets by the start of the World Series.
The Mets general manager made it clear earlier this week a resolution on both players’ futures could come quickly. A baseball source with knowledge of the team’s thinking was more specific yesterday, saying it’s conceivable Wright and Dickey will have new deals in place, at least in principle, by the time the World Series begins later this month.
As for the sizes of these deals, agents have speculated Wright should fetch at minimum a seven to eight year deal worth $125-$150 million, while Dickey could garner a three year deal worth $40-50 million.
The Mets hold club options on both Wright ($16 million and Dickey ($5 million )for 2013, but both have said they intend to test free agency after the conclusion of the 2013 season if extensions cannot be reached. Dickey also added that he considers himself and Wright a package deal, and both players want to see what the plan is for future spending and fielding a competitive team that can win.
