MLB: Washington Nationals at Arizona Diamondbacks

It’s official. The New York Mets have confirmed that they have acquired right-handed reliever Addison Reed from the Arizona Diamondbacks in return for right-handed pitching prospects Matt Koch and Miller Diaz.

To make room for Reed on the 40-man roster, the Mets will transfer infielder Wilfredo Tovar to the 60-day disabled list.

Reed, 26, has made 38 relief appearances with the D’Backs and has a 4.20 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with three saves and eight holds this season. He had 40 saves in 2013 with the Chicago White Sox and 32 last season with the D-backs.

However, Reed was demoted to Triple-A for a month due to poor performance this season, but has pitched much better since his return to the big league team. He has a 1.35 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in his last 11 relief appearances spanning 13.1 innings.

The former closer has held left-handed hitters to a .242 batting average and .672 OPS this year. He has reverse splits and right-handed hitters have tagged him for a .310 batting average and .832 OPS.

He’s owed $1.2 million for the rest of this season and will be eligible for his second season of arbitration heading into 2016.

Look for Reed to assume a 7th inning role to bridge the gap to Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia.

Koch, 24, had a 3.46 ERA and 1.245 WHIP for Double-A Binghamton in 35 appearances including eight starts.

Diaz, 23, 4.71 ERA and 1.461 WHIP in 21 starts for Advanced-A St. Lucie.
