The Mets have claimed left-handed reliever Brad Hand according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. The veteran was recently designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays and will join the Mets big league roster.

To make room on the roster for Hand, the Mets have designated right-hander Geoff Hartlieb for assignment.

Hand, 31, has a 4.21 ERA, 1.287 WHIP, and 8.2 K/9 in 51 innings this season between the Nationals and Blue Jays. Hand was dealt to the Blue Jays at the trade deadline for catching prospect Riley Adams. Hand allowed seven earned runs in 8 2/3 innings with the Blue Jays.

The former Cleveland closer was dominant from 2016-2020 with a 2.70 ERA, 12.2 K/9, 104 saves, and an All-Star three times during that stretch.

Hand would not be eligible for the Mets postseason roster if they make it.
