The New York Mets made sure to make a move before the end of the trade deadline this afternoon, as the team made an official announcement that it has claimed minor-league infielder Jack Reinheimer off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Reinheimer, 26,  is currently slashing .237/.312/.353 with the Reno Aces (Arizona’s Triple-A affiliate). He has just three home runs, 21 RBI, and four steals this year, but grades out slightly above average as a shortstop, second baseman, and third baseman in terms of range factor. He has a career .700 OPS in six minor league seasons between the Diamondbacks’ and Seattle Mariners’ affiliates.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Reinheimer, the Mets transferred outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the 60-day disabled list as he recovers from heel calcification issues that have sidelined him for the rest of the season.
