Mets vs. Rockies

Taijuan Walker tossed seven scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies on the road in the Mets’ 2-0 win in the rubber game of their series. Walker became the fourth Mets pitcher to toss at least seven scoreless innings against the Rockies on the road, joining Pete Harnisch (7/21/1995), Mike Pelfrey (4/15/2010), and Marcus Stroman (9/17/2019).

Taijuan Walker recorded 30 called strikes + whiffs in his outing against the Rockies. That’s a game high for Walker this season.

Mets vs. Giants

The Mets scored 13 runs in their opening series win against the San Francisco Giants on the road. The 13 runs the Mets scored was the most runs they’ve scored against the Giants on the road since May 18, 1996 (14 runs in their 14-5 victory).

Francisco Lindor drove in two runs for his 500th career RBI. Lindor became the 10th Puerto Rican-born player to hit 100+ home runs, steal 100+ bases, and drive in 500+ runs, joining such as players as Roberto Alomar, Carlos Beltrán, Bernie Williams, and Iván Rodríguez.

Pete Alonso drove in his 40th RBI of the season, becoming the first National League hitter to reach that mark this season. Alonso became the second Mets hitter to drive in 40 or more runs in the team’s first 44 games of a season, joining Bernard Gilkey (41, 1996).

Mets vs. Giants

Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, and six RBI in the Mets’ 13-12 loss to the Giants. Lindor became the first Mets shortstop with 6+ RBI in a game since Wilmer Flores on June 2, 2014.

Prior to this game, the Mets had a record of 180-0 when scoring a dozen or more runs in a game.

Mets vs. Giants

Thomas Szapucki started for the Mets in his first career start and allowed nine earned runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Szapucki became just the second Mets’ starting pitcher to toss no more than 2 innings while allowing nine earned runs, joining Octavio Dotel on July 31, 1999.

It was the second-straight game where a Mets starting pitcher allowed 8+ earned runs (Chris Bassitt allowed 8 ER over 4 1/3 innings the day prior). It was the first time that the Mets had starters allow 8+ ER in back-to-back starts since 2015 when Jon Niese (May 19) and Bartolo Colon (May 20) did so.

Brandon Nimmo recorded his 4th triple of the season when he led off the top of the eighth with a three-bagger off Zack Littell. It was Nimmo’s 19th career triple, which tied Ron Swoboda, Wayne Garrett, Daniel Murphy, and Amed Rosario for the 13th-most triples in Mets history.

Colin Holderman made his fifth appearance of the season and retired the Giants in order in the sixth with two strikeouts. Holderman became the first Mets’ reliever to not allow an earned run while striking out seven or more batters in his first five career games.

Phillies vs. Mets

Pete Alonso drove in four runs in the Mets’ 8-6 win in the first game of the three-game series against the Phillies. His 45 RBIs before Memorial Day are a Mets record. Bernard Gilkey held the mark with 44 RBIs before Memorial Day in 1996.

The aforementioned Alonso went 2-for-2 with a double, home run, sac fly, walk, and 4 RBI. He became the first Mets first baseman since Carlos Delgado on September 24, 2008, to record a double, homer, walk, and 4 RBI in a game.

Alonso’s two-run home run in the third inning was the 118th of his career. Alonso tied Ed Kranepool for the 12th-most homers in franchise history.

Phillies vs. Mets

Francisco Lindor drove in 3 runs in the Mets’ 8-2 win over the Phillies. Over his last five games, Lindor recorded 13 RBI becoming the first Met since Yoenis Céspedes in 2016 (April 19-29) to drive in 13+ runs within a five-game span.

Colin Holderman tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his sixth career appearance. He’s the only Mets reliever to not allow an earned run while striking out double-digit batters in his first six big league games.

Luis Guillorme went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Guillorme became the first Mets’ leadoff hitter with at least three hits and a walk in a game since Brandon Nimmo on September 17, 2020.
