The Mets (60-72) dropped Game 1 by a score of 4-3 in the first of a three-game series against the Rangers (74-57) at Citi Field on Monday evening. Tylor Megill had one of his best starts of the season, but the offense fell flat and the bullpen struggled in the loss. New York notched four hits, including two home runs from Brandon Nimmo and DJ Stewart. Trevor Gott (0-4) took the loss after blowing the save, just one out away in the ninth inning.

(Box Score)

New York got on the board first with a two-run homer knocked by Brandon Nimmo in the third for his 19th on the season. DJ Stewart added another run in the fifth with a solo shot to center field that made it 3-0 Mets.

Tylor Megill tossed six innings and allowed just one run on five hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. The starter looked solid throughout the evening, but allowed three hits in the sixth to give up a run and make it 3-1.

Sean Reid-Foley tossed a scoreless inning in relief with a strikeout.

New York allowed just one run in the seventh, escaping a bases-loaded jam to keep a 3-2 lead. After allowing a double and a walk to put runners on first and third with a passed ball, Brooks Raley‘s stint was cut short for Sam Coonrod. Coonrod walked the bases loaded, and a force out drove in a run to tie it up. The reliever then induced a flyout to end the inning and hold on to the lead.

Trevor Gott came out to get the save for New York and allowed back-to-back hits to start the inning, putting the tying run on third and go-ahead run on second with no outs. Then, an out away from a win after getting two strikeouts, the reliever intentionally walked Corey Seager, and he was beat by a Nathaniel Lowe two-run, g0-ahead single to blow the lead and put Texas ahead 4-3.
