Mets strike back with twelve hits against the Yanks and took game two of the Subway series, winning 5-3.

Game Summary

Possibly the most needed win so far this season. After losing the first game of the series to the Yankees in horrible fashion the Mets were able to pound out more than enough runs to beat the Yanks.

Mike Pelfrey was able to give the Mets a great six inning start to the game. Giving up six hits, one earned run, walked two, and struck out five of our cross town rivals. Pelfrey proves to be, once again, our best starter this season. With an ERA of 2.86 and six wins already this season, don’t be surprised if he ends the season with the most wins for the Mets. Sorry Johan, but it could be true.

Mets rookie, Jenrry Mejia had another great relief outing. He pitched one inning, only allowing one hit, struck out one and walked one. Pedro Feliciano, however, did not have the same luck. He gave up two hits and two runs, before recording a single out. Nieve continues to be the Mets work horse out of the bullpen, but only recording one out and walked in a run with the bases loaded, the run though was charged to Feliciano.

Mets closer Frankie Rodriguez was the Mets final relief pitcher to escape the possible monster eight inning. He got the last two outs of the inning and gave up a run that was also charged to Feliciano. He stayed in to close it out in the ninth and got his seventh save of the season.

Mets bats were carried by the dynamic trio of Angel Pagan, Jason Bay and David Wright. Bay had his best offensive game so far this season since coming to the Mets. Going 4-4 with a double and scored three runs. Hmmm, maybe Bay should stay in the third hole?

Angel Pagan contributed with three hits as well, with two doubles and two runs-batted in. Pagan proving that he is no longer a fourth outfielder and that he is legit. When/if Beltran comes back, Pagan deserves a platoon role with Francoeur in right field. David Wright struck out once, but all is forgiven as he got two hits for two RBIs on the night. Alex Cora also contributed going 1-1 with a pinch hit RBI single.

Not all the Mets hitters were contributing though as Castillo, Davis, Barajas, and Francoeur combined for 0-13 on the night.

Turning Point

Wasn’t much of a turning point as the Mets took the lead early and never looked back. Good job boys!

Game Ball

Mike Pelfrey had a great start, but Jason Bay getting four hits on the night deserves to be awarded with the game ball.
