If only the Mets had played like this all year.
Regardless, it still feels good to see the boys in blue and orange hang with the best of ’em and pull out a win against the best team in baseball, the Boston Red Sox.
Despite this win meaning nothing for the Mets in the long run, we saw yet again the gruesome twosome duo of Amed Rosario and Jeff McNeil pound the ball, and each record a home run.
Noah Syndergaard held up his end of the bargain on the pitching side, and through the first three innings offensively, it was the Jay Bruce show.
The outfielder who signed a three-year deal to return to New York this past winter, but has battled injury and struggles at the dish, drove in the first four Mets runs with a first inning double, and a three-run homer in the third.
The 31-year-old Bruce now has eight homers on the year and is hitting .265/.357/.571 at the dish over his last 15 games.
In the fourth, the aforementioned McNeil clubbed his fourth dinger of the year to right-central. I don’t need to tell you how good he’s been because I’m sure you know, but I will anyway.
On the campaign, McNeil is hitting .337/.392/.500, and over his last seven games, he is mashing to the tune of an .1127 OPS.
Then in the eighth inning, New York put the nail in the coffin with long balls from Austin Jackson, his third, and Rosario, his ninth of the year.
Rosario, who many unfairly called a bust, has truly come into his own in the second half of 2018.
In his last 30 games, the young shortstop is slashing .328/.364/.528 with five homers and 16 RBI. His former top prospect status is finally coming to fruition and it’s hella exciting. 2019 is going to be a blast for the fans getting to see Rosario thrive.
On Saturday, Corey Oswalt will look to lead New York to a series victory. The game starts at 4:05 p.m.
