The Mets have had terrible luck in the White North of Canada against the Blue Jays. Luckily with David Wright back, they were able to put some runs on the board. After two short starts from Jon Niese and Miguel Batista, we were able to find a starter that could at least reach the seventh inning. Dillon Gee had a nice start that was exactly what the Mets needed. Allowing three runs on five hits, including a homerun, in 6.2 innings on the mound. He gave up four walks and struck out six on the way to his third win.

Bobby Parnell came in to close out the seventh and induced a ground out. He stayed in for the eighth and was greeted by back-to-back doubles by J.P. Arencibia and Eric Thames. It was not a bad decision to leave Parnell in for the eighth, he had only two pitches in the seventh. It just didn’t work out. He ends with an inning pitched, three hits, two runs and a strikeout on a 101 MPH fastball. Luckily Tim Byrdak was able to save it getting the last out.

Frank Francisco came in to close it in the ninth against his old team. There were boos from the crowd, however, New York still boos him louder. He walked the first batter, gave up a base hit then strike out, strike out, strike out to end the game. Save number ten. Never a dull moment with him.

Lucas Duda and Andres Torres both had 0-fers. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had one hit, a double, and an RBI.

Daniel Murphy didn’t have a hit last game and goes 1-5 today with an RBI and a strikeout. He’s batting .319.

Ike Davis finally wakes up with his first hit in the series. Also had an RBI. Now hitting .163 on the season.

Rob Johnson and Ronny Cedeno with two hits each, a double for Johnson and Cedeno scored a run.

Mike Baxter had a great game getting three hits, a single, double and a triple. He couldn’t get the homerun for the cycle, but you can add two runs and an RBI to his day.

David Wright is back in the lineup and had two hits today, a single and a double. He knocked in two and scored one. However, he did strikeout twice and his second strikeout was with the bases loaded to end the top of the eighth. He is batting .412 on the season.

Notes

David Wright with two hits gives him 1,302 career hits and is now in sole possession of second place on the Mets all time hit list.

The Mets have now gone 8,009 games without a no-hitter.

Baxter nearly had the second cycle of the season but fell a homer shy of accomplishing the feat.

Game Ball

Dillon Gee had a solid effort and splits the game ball with Wright and Baxter.
