The Mets made their one-year deal with Colon official on Friday. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated Johnny Monell for assignment.

“I’ve had a great experience in New York,” Colon said in a statement Friday. “The fans are great, being part of the postseason was great. I’ll do anything Terry wants me to do this year, start or relieve. I just want to help us get back to the World Series.”

Sources have told MMO’s Michael Mayer that veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon has passed his physical and is officially a New York Met.

Colon agreed to a one-year deal with the Mets worth $7.25 million on Wednesday, as first reported by Metsmerized Online.

Colon, 42, was 14-13 with a 4.16 ERA in 194.2 innings in the regular season and made seven relief appearances during the postseason, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out seven.

Look for an official announcement from the Mets sometime today.

Previous Report: December 16

According to MMO’s Michael Mayer, a Dominican News Source is reporting that the Mets have agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Bartolo Colon.

The news has since been confirmed by Ken Rosenthal who says the deal is worth $7.25 million and is pending a physical.

Colon had higher offers from the Braves and the Athletics according to what sources told MMO, but Colon chose the Mets because he has enjoyed his time with the organization and has become close friends with many of his teammates.

Colon, 42, was 14-13 with a 4.16 ERA in 194.2 innings in the regular season and made seven relief appearances during the postseason, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out seven.

Assistant GM John Ricco made no secret he wanted the Big Sexy back. “His versatility and the success he had in the playoffs in that role, and where he is in his career, I think he could fit us on a number of levels. Everything I’ve heard, he would be open to that type of role,”

This is great news. Nice job by the Mets…
