Andy Martino of SNY is reporting that the Mets and Cleveland Indians have discussed a deal that would send catcher Yan Gomes to New York.

Gomes, 31, hit .266/.313/.449 with 16 home runs and 48 RBI to give him a 101 wRC+ last season. He is also considered one of the better defensive catchers in the game and ranked 15th in framing runs last season with 7.5 as well as 14th in field runs above average with a 9.1 clip.

According to Martino, sources are under the belief that this situation might be a match for the two clubs, but that there are still other teams involved. Yesterday, it was reported that the Dodgers were having multiple conversations with the Indians, some of which included Gomes.

While none of these starting pitchers are likely to be targeted by the Mets in a trade, Corey Kluber, Trevor Bauer, and Carlos Carrasco have been made available as well with the Indians considering tearing things down.

Gomes will make $7 million in 2019, but also has two club options as part of his contract for the 2020 and 2021 in which he would make $9 and $11 million respectively.

Brodie Van Wagenen has cited the catching position as a place he would look to upgrade so it is not very surprising to see the Mets involved in the Yan Gomes trade market, especially considering Mickey Callaway has worked with the catcher before.
