Murphy, 27, had been seeking $3.4 million while the Mets countered with a $2.55 million offer.

In his first full season as the Mets second baseman, Murphy batted .291/.332/.403 with six home runs and 65 RBI in 156 games last season.

The team also avoided arbitration with Ike Davis and Bobby Parnell earlier this month, so they head into camp without any arbitration hearings hanging over their heads.
