Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Mets have agreed to a deal with free agent center fielder Albert Almora Jr., pending a physical.

In a follow-up tweet, Rosenthal added what many had already suspected following the news of the deal – that Almora will likely serve as a right-handed option in center field, rather than an everyday player.

Looking back at his 2020 season with the Cubs, it was clear that Almora struggled. In 30 at-bats (though the limited sample size is certainly taken into account), the center fielder finished with a line of .167/.265/.200, an OPS of .465, five hits, and one RBI.

As for his career, Almora fares a little better. Thus far, he sits at .271/.309/.398, a .707 OPS, 2.8 WAR, 332 hits, and 134 total RBIs.

Offense aside, Almora’s defense has remained quite solid. In five seasons and 427 total games in center field, he boasts a .990 fielding percentage, 6 DRS, 1.1 UZR, 10 total assists, and seven errors.
